I'm Kerry
I absolutely love seeing a child's real smile - the kind that lights up their whole body! It's been the highlight of my 27 years as an occupational therapist, with 17 amazing years spent as a 'sensory' OT.
I'll never forget the moment I fell in love with sensory integration back in 2008. I was watching an OT session at my new workplace when this little one with double cochlear implants came in, looking so quiet and withdrawn. But oh my goodness - when she got on that swing! The pure joy on her face moved me to tears, and right then I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my career.
Fast forward through loads of studying (Ayres Sensory Integration certification, a Masters degree, even got a paper published!), and a big move to Australia. Life threw me a massive curveball in 2021 when I nearly died. Sometimes the scariest moments lead to the best changes. A lovely nurse chatting about her sensory autistic daughter helped me realise that sharing my knowledge could mean the world to parents. She cried when a few words from me helped her understand!
That's how SenseUp was born! And now look at us in 2025 - we've helped train 1,890 OTs and reached 80,000 children. And we're just getting started! I dream of a world where every sensory child feels completely understood and supported.
